SHORT INTRO: World Championships in fly fishing has been organized since 1981 by international organization called FIPS-Mouche. Finland has participated in the World Championships since year 1985 (see history). Finnish team is currently selected partly based on the success in the previous World Champs and partly based on the top placings in the National Finals. The responsible organization is the Finnish Federation for Recreational Fishing.

Due to home games the FLY FISHING TEAM FINLAND is this year exceptionally large and consists of six anglers (one reserve) and four management team members, including the manager and the captain. Below you will find the profiles of the team members.

Part of the team participated in Master de Campeones de Pesca in Cantabria, Spain. Result: two best non-Spanish placings.

Fly fishing fairs were in Tampere. The team had a stand there.

The Annual World Fly Fishing Championships will take place in Finland 13-20.6.07. The Kemi – Simo – Tornio Region lies to the northeast of the Gulf of Bothnia, in the south of Finnish Lapland.  The Competition Centre is in the town of Kemi. 19.6.07 Final results. After not so good day on Monday, Finnish Team managed to get bronze medals. France was clearly the best team with 179 points. Czechs had 231 points and Finland 249.

16.6.07 Finland leading after the first day(two sessions). France second and England third. Member of Team Finland, Jukka Levänen,  holding the first individual position and another member, Olli Toivonen, is second.
So, things are looking good for Team Finland.

13.6.07 The team has moved from Ranua to official competition hotel in Kemi. The practice week was demanding but the team was able to find the right flies and techniques for the current conditions.


6.6.07 First reports from practices indicate that the fishing might be very demanding. The water level is dropping quickly and it should  improve  the fishing.
